LOS ANGELES (AP) Alijah Arenas, an 18-year-old basketball recruit from Southern California, has been reported to have no major injuries following his involvement in a serious car accident. He is expected to be released from the hospital shortly. Alijah, the son of former NBA player Gilbert Arenas, was removed from an induced coma last Friday, a day after the incident occurred in the Reseda area of the San Fernando Valley.
Josiah Johnson, who hosts the podcast of Gilbert Arenas, provided an update on Alijah’s condition on Monday. Johnson expressed relief, stating, “Happy to announce that Alijah is doing much better. Just got off the phone with Gil. Alijah’s doing better, walking, talking, progressing very well, should be released from the hospital very soon. No major injuries as a result of the car accident.”
Details surrounding the car crash reveal that Alijah was returning from the gym when he reportedly “lost control” of the Tesla Cybertruck he was driving. The vehicle crashed into a tree and/or a fire hydrant, prompting a rapid response from the Los Angeles Fire Department and the LA Police Department, who arrived at the scene shortly before 5 a.m. on Thursday morning. As of now, an official cause for the crash has yet to be disclosed.
Alijah Arenas has made a name for himself in the basketball community, having committed to play for the USC Trojans in January. He gained notable accolades while attending Chatsworth High School, where he became the first boys player in the area’s history to score 3,000 career points.
This incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictability of life and the importance of road safety. As Alijah continues to recover, the support from his family, friends, and fans is likely to play a critical role in his healing process. The basketball community is eagerly awaiting his return to the court, where he is expected to shine as he embarks on his collegiate career.
