"Three Arrested After High-Speed Theft Chase in Halifax"

Three men are charged with break and enter after officers followed a vehicle that sped away from a Bedford business and also injured a Mountie

A serious incident occurred in Bedford, Nova Scotia, where three men are facing multiple charges related to a break and enter. The Halifax Regional Police (HRP) reported that they identified these suspects after they fled a scene linked to a theft at The Atlantic Gold & Silver Centre located at 30 Damascus Rd., resulting in injuries to a police officer.

The police response came after a call around 11:50 p.m. on October 17, indicating that a theft had taken place. Upon arrival at the scene, officers observed a speeding SUV leaving the area at a high velocity. According to the HRP release, it is believed that the suspects made off with items from a safe within the establishment.

Subsequently, the vehicle was discovered abandoned in Lower Sackville. Officers noted that the suspects were attempting to enter another vehicle when it collided with a responding RCMP vehicle. Fortunately, the Mountie involved was treated for minor injuries at the scene. This incident marks the third time an RCMP officer has been injured in the line of duty within the month.

Despite initially escaping, the trio was pursued and ultimately apprehended by law enforcement. Jairo Sepulvedad Quiroga, a 20-year-old, faces an extensive list of charges, including:

  • Break and enter (x2)
  • Possession of break-in instruments
  • Theft over $5,000
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
  • Theft under $5,000
  • Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Mischief (x2)
  • Dangerous operation of a conveyance
  • Assault on a peace officer with a weapon
  • Flight from a peace officer
  • Obstructing a public peace officer

His co-defendants, Elian Padilla-Lorca, 26, and Antonio Gonzales Carranza, 48, are facing similar charges, with the exception of obstructing a public peace officer.

All three individuals appeared in court on Tuesday to respond to the charges against them. The details of this case underscore the growing concerns regarding public safety and the dangers law enforcement officers face while performing their duties.
