HBO has officially begun production on the eagerly awaited adaptation of the Harry Potter TV series, with the network unveiling a first look at the central character on Monday. This adaptation promises to bring the beloved story to life for a new generation of fans.
The initial promotional image released by HBO features Dominic McLaughlin portraying Harry Potter. He is dressed in the iconic Hogwarts uniform, complete with round-rim glasses and the trademark lightning bolt scar—similar to the look made famous by actor Daniel Radcliffe in the original eight-film series. The new series aims to resonate with both long-time fans and newcomers.
Production is taking place at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the U.K., with the series slated to debut in 2027. The casting announcements on Monday included a diverse range of actors in significant roles: Rory Wilmot will play Neville Longbottom, Amos Kitson takes on the role of Dudley Dursley, Louise Brealey will portray Madam Rolanda Hooch, and Anton Lesser is set to play Garrick Ollivander. Earlier in May, it was announced that McLaughlin was cast as Harry Potter, alongside Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley.
Joining these young stars are several well-known actors in key roles that are much anticipated within the community. Paapa Essiedu has been cast as Severus Snape, John Lithgow will portray Albus Dumbledore, and Katherine Parkinson is set to play Molly Weasley, all of whom are integral to the narrative of the series.
