"Couple Arrested in Major Drug Trafficking Bust"

RCMP have arrested a man and woman after a drug trafficking investigation in September

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) have arrested a man and a woman following a drug trafficking investigation that took place in September. The operation was conducted by the Halifax Regional Detachment's Street Crime Enforcement Unit (SCEU), which had received information indicating that a woman was allegedly selling cocaine that was laced with fentanyl.

The investigation revealed that the woman was working in conjunction with a man, complicating the drug trafficking network they were operating within. On October 9, 2023, officers observed a specific incident involving a 25-year-old man from Lower Sackville. The officers noticed him conducting a drug transaction inside a vehicle situated in a parking lot on Cobequid Road. Given the nature of their observations, the officers proceeded to arrest the man.

During the arrest, law enforcement officials conducted a search of the man and discovered a quantity of cash. Furthermore, a search of the individual who was buying the drugs led to the seizure of additional substances, possibly connected to the ongoing drug investigation.

Following the arrest of the man, around 7 p.m. on the same day, RCMP HRD SCEU officers executed a search warrant at an apartment located in the 0-100 block of Cobequid Road. The search uncovered a variety of suspicious items believed to be linked to drug trafficking activities. Among the items seized were cocaine, unidentified pills, cellphones, and a BMW that investigators suspect was used in the illegal drug operations.

In connection with the investigation, a 61-year-old woman from Lower Sackville was also arrested on charges of possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking. Both individuals arrested were later released, and they are scheduled to make an appearance at the Dartmouth Provincial Court at a future date.

The operation highlights the ongoing efforts of the RCMP in addressing drug-related crimes in their jurisdiction. The potential dangers of fentanyl-laced substances pose significant risks not only to users but also to the wider community. The police are emphasizing the importance of vigilance and cooperation from the community in order to disrupt such dangerous trafficking networks.

As investigations continue, additional information may emerge that could shed more light on the extent of the drug trafficking activities in the area. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to tackling drug-related offenses and ensuring that those involved in such criminal behaviors are held accountable for their actions.
