BERLIN (AP) – On Sunday, in the town of Bohmte located in northwestern Germany, an unusual and tragic accident occurred that resulted in multiple injuries. A car, driven by a 42-year-old man whose identity has not been revealed, veered off the street, first colliding with a parked vehicle before breaking through a hedge and crashing into a garden. In a shocking turn of events, the vehicle struck a 7-year-old boy who was playing on a trampoline in the garden.
The sequence of events escalated when the vehicle traveled over uneven ground, launching it into the air. It ultimately crashed into the roof of a neighboring barn, coming to rest approximately 3 meters (10 feet) above the ground. This bizarre trajectory highlighted the chaotic nature of the accident and raised many questions regarding the circumstances leading up to it.
As a result of this incident, the young boy sustained serious injuries, prompting immediate concern from authorities. The driver and his wife were also reported to be seriously injured from the accident. In addition to the couple, their two sons, aged 11 and 12, as well as a 13-year-old passenger, were in the car at the time of the accident. Fortunately, these four individuals emerged with only minor injuries.
The police quickly mobilized a substantial emergency response to the scene, which included dozens of firefighters, around a dozen ambulances, and two rescue helicopters. Such a robust deployment indicates the severity of the situation and the immediate need for medical attention for the victims involved.
Images emerging from the scene depicted the considerable efforts of rescuers, who were seen cutting through the barn roof to reach the occupants of the car. Additionally, the wreckage of a playground, which the vehicle traversed, was visible, underscoring the collision’s impact not just on people, but also on the surrounding environment.
The vehicle itself had to be extricated from the barn roof using a crane before being transported away by law enforcement officials. This unusual circumstance of a car being lodged atop a barn presented further challenges for recovery efforts and investigations into the crash.
