"Man Arrested in East Preston on Drug and Weapons Charges"

One man is facing a slew of drug trafficking and weapons related charges

Authorities have apprehended a 42-year-old man from Dartmouth, known as Frankie Downey, who is currently facing multiple serious charges related to drug trafficking and firearms. The arrest took place on August 13, when law enforcement officials responded to a residence located in East Preston. During the incident, Downey attempted to flee on foot but was safely taken into custody by the officers at the scene.

Following his arrest, a thorough search of the premises was conducted. This included not only the residence where the arrest occurred but also two vehicles on-site and another location in Dartmouth. The Halifax Regional Police provided valuable assistance throughout this search operation.

During the extensive searches, officers uncovered a range of incriminating items. Notably, a loaded pistol was found, which included an over-capacity magazine, a significant quantity of pre-packaged cocaine, and an undisclosed amount of cash. The nature of these findings has raised serious concerns regarding the potential implications of drug trafficking and illegal weapon possession.

Frankie Downey now faces an array of charges, each reflecting the severity of his alleged actions. The list of accusations includes:

  • Careless Use of a Firearm;
  • Contravening a Regulation to Store, Handle, Transport, Ship, or Display a Firearm;
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose;
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm;
  • Possession of a Firearm Knowing Possession is Unauthorized;
  • Possession of a Weapon or Device Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized;
  • Possession of Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition;
  • Possession of a Weapon Obtained by Commission of an Offence;
  • Two counts of Possessing a Firearm While Prohibited;
  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking; and
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime.

Following his initial court appearance on August 14 at the Dartmouth Provincial Court, Downey was remanded into custody. He is scheduled for a subsequent court appearance on August 19, where further proceedings in connection to his charges will take place. The investigating authorities are continuing their inquiries to uncover additional details related to this case.
