Environment Canada has reported that Prince Edward Island (P.E.I.) experienced its first tornado in nearly 20 years, which touched down on the afternoon of August 26, 2026. This significant weather event marked the first occurrence of a tornado on the Island since 2007, highlighting the rarity of such phenomena in the region.

The tornado, categorized as an F0 on the Fujita scale, is recognized as the smallest and least intense classification of tornadoes. The tornado was observed in Little Harbour, located on the eastern end of P.E.I., where it achieved wind speeds reaching approximately 115 kilometers per hour. Although the tornado was not exceptionally strong, it nevertheless caused enough disturbance to be noteworthy.

Brielle Campbell, a local resident, captured footage of the tornado from her home. In her video, she described how the tornado picked up debris and uprooted several small trees, sending them airborne. In addition to the tornado itself, Environment Canada noted that there was also a waterspout reported in the vicinity on the same day. Waterspouts are more common occurrences in the region, with a total of three reported so far in the year 2026.
