JOHN'S The police oversight body in Newfoundland and Labrador, known as the Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT), has announced that a St. John's police officer has been charged with two counts of harassment. These charges arise from an investigation prompted by a complaint against the officer, who serves with the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC).
The specific charges leveled against the constable include one count of criminal harassment and another count related to harassing communications. The oversight organization confirmed these details in an official statement, underscoring the seriousness of the allegations in relation to the officer's conduct.
On August 26, the RNC was notified about the impending charges and subsequently took immediate action by suspending the officer with pay.
