"10 Years Later: Unsolved Murder of Rickey Walker"

It’s been 10 years since Halifax Regional Police found a 48-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound behind an elementary school

It has been ten years since Halifax Regional Police discovered Rickey Walker, a 48-year-old man, injured from a gunshot wound behind John McNeil Elementary School in Dartmouth's Albro Lake neighborhood. Walker, who was described as a "humble man" by his family and worked as a call center employee, ultimately succumbed to his injuries after placing a 911 call on September 1, 2016.

The police received reports around 2:52 a.m. regarding a man in distress in a wooded area near the school. Upon arrival, officers found Walker in serious medical condition and he was promptly transported to the hospital. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, he did not survive.

As the investigation into Walker's death has reached a standstill, authorities are renewing their appeal for information. Walker's case is included in the Nova Scotia reward system, which offers a $150,000 reward for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for his murder.

Investigators are urging individuals who may possess critical information to come forward. A previous Halifax Regional Police news release stated, "We believe there are people who have information that could help solve Rickey's murder and we hope that the passage of time encourages them to do the right thing and share what they know with police. It is never too late to come forward, and the smallest piece of information may be just what is needed to progress the investigation into Rickey's murder."

Family's Tribute to a 'Humble' Man

Brandon, Walker's nephew, noted that his uncle was last seen on August 31, 2016, in downtown Dartmouth. He was spotted around Highfield Park Drive at approximately 11 p.m. that evening. Brandon reminisced about Walker’s character, emphasizing his role as a humble family man.

For the family, the ongoing investigation serves as a pursuit of closure. Walker's family members and friends fondly remember him as someone who had a positive impact on those around him. He was not only a dedicated call center manager but also a cherished family member.

Current and former colleagues have expressed their reflections on Walker, confirming his reputation for kindness. One employee, who wished to remain unnamed, shared that Walker had "such a kind heart to everyone," reflecting the sentiments of many who knew him during their time working together.

Given the time that has passed since his tragic passing, Walker's family remains hopeful that someone will come forward with vital information that could assist in resolving the case and bringing justice for Rickey Walker.
