"Street Closures Ahead: Bluenose Marathon Weekend!"

It’s that time of year again!  Streets will be flooded with runners this weekend as the Bluenose Marathon returns

The much-anticipated Bluenose Marathon is set to take place this weekend, drawing thousands of runners to the streets of Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM). This annual event not only brings a wave of excitement but also leads to a myriad of road closures throughout the city, impacting both traffic and parking.

Starting on Saturday, May 27, 2023, the marathon will begin its activities early in the morning and continue into the early afternoon. During this time, there will be full street closures on several key thoroughfares, including portions of Cogswell Street, Ahern Avenue, North Park Street, and Cunard Street. These closures are essential to ensure the safety of the participants and to facilitate the smooth running of the event.

In addition to the full closures, the city will also implement rolling closures in various neighborhoods. Notable areas affected on Saturday will include Bell Road, Gottingen Street, Spring Garden Road, and University Avenue. Runners will be traversing these streets at different times, resulting in temporary disruptions to vehicle and pedestrian traffic.

The events will continue into Sunday, May 28, 2023, when even more street closures are anticipated, lasting from the early morning until the afternoon. Among the streets confirmed for closure are the Macdonald Bridge, Agricola Street, and Nantucket Avenue. The extensive nature of these closures highlights the significant scale of the marathon and its importance to the community.

In support of the participants and volunteers of the marathon, Halifax Transit is offering free conventional bus and ferry service throughout the weekend. This service is available to not only the runners but also to volunteers who present valid credentials and those sporting race bibs. This free service is in effect on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, providing a convenient option for those involved in the marathon festivities.

Alongside street closures, several areas in the city will also face parking bans to accommodate the influx of runners and spectators. Residents and visitors are advised to stay informed about these bans to avoid potential inconveniences. The Bluenose Marathon serves as a celebration of fitness, community spirit, and athletic achievement, drawing participants and supporters from near and far. As the weekend approaches, both runners and residents are urged to prepare for the lively atmosphere that accompanies this significant annual event.
