LONDON (AP) – A third individual has been taken into custody in relation to a series of suspected arson attacks targeting properties associated with U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer, as confirmed by police. The 34-year-old man, who remains unnamed, was arrested in Chelsea, a district in west London, on suspicion of conspiracy to commit arson with intent to endanger life, according to the Metropolitan Police.

The recent arrest follows the apprehension of a 26-year-old man on the same charge, which occurred on Saturday. This came just one day after a 21-year-old Ukrainian national, Roman Lavrynovych, faced court on allegations of setting fire to Starmer's personal residence, as well as another property linked to him and a small SUV that had been sold. The police have not disclosed the nationalities of the second and third suspects involved.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported in connection with the fires, which were set over three separate nights in north London, between May 8 and May 12. Lavrynovych did not enter a plea during his appearance at Westminster Magistrates’ Court, where he faced three counts of arson with intent to endanger life. A prosecutor remarked that there was currently no clear motive for the crimes, while Lavrynovych has denied his involvement in the incidents.

After being elected in July, Starmer and his family transitioned into the official residence of the Prime Minister located at Downing Street. This development highlights the ongoing concern regarding the safety of public figures and the escalation of criminal activities targeting them.

The police are actively investigating the incidents, and further updates are anticipated as authorities work to unravel the circumstances surrounding these alarming events. The community remains on high alert, given the gravity of the charges and potential risks involved.

This troubling situation raises significant questions about security measures for public officials and the implications of targeted attacks on their property. As investigations continue, the focus will likely shift towards preventing future incidents and understanding the motivations behind such acts.
