"Flooding Devastates Homes in Southwest China"

BEIJING (AP) — Flooding in southwestern China has destroyed dozens of roads and homes

BEIJING (AP) – Recent flooding in southwestern China has caused significant damage, affecting both infrastructure and housing in Yunnan province. The Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture, known for its mountainous terrain, reported that 27 houses have been damaged and 16 bridges have been either damaged or destroyed. As of Sunday, authorities have confirmed no casualties, injuries, or missing persons, which is especially notable given that the area is a popular tourist destination and is nearing a national holiday on Monday.

The impact of the flooding has led to dangerous conditions in the Diqing Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture as well, where landslides and additional flooding have resulted in road closures. These adverse weather conditions have complicated rescue efforts, particularly due to thick fog that has settled over the region. 300 tourists were evacuated from the Meri Snow Mountain scenic zone, and several hundred local residents were also relocated to safer areas as a precautionary measure.

Weather forecasts indicate that more rain is expected in the coming days, raising concerns about further flooding and landslides in the already affected areas. Local authorities are monitoring the situation closely to ensure the safety of residents and tourists alike.
