"Furry Friends Tie the Knot at Good Robot Brewing!"

An increasing number of couples are including their furry friends in their wedding ceremonies; sometimes sitting at the alter as the best man, or running down the aisle with the rings

In recent years, a growing number of couples have started to incorporate their beloved pets into their wedding ceremonies, often having them play roles such as the best man or ring bearer. Taking this trend to a new level, Good Robot Brewing in Halifax is hosting a unique event titled ‘My Big Fat Dog Wedding’ on September 20. This event aims to celebrate the union of two lucky dogs in a delightful and whimsical ceremony.

Good Robot Brewing positions itself as the “curators of quirky beer experiences for our communities.” This upcoming event is a testament to their mission of providing unconventional and entertaining experiences. Joshua Counsil, the Co-Founder of Good Robot Brewing, expressed enthusiasm for the return of such whimsical occasions in a recent press release. He remarked, “Before Covid, Good Robot was known for bizarre events that made people laugh and brought the community together.” He referenced previous events, such as Crop Top Tolerance Day and puppet shows featuring Jim Henson’s former crew, highlighting the brewery's commitment to creativity and community engagement.

The pandemic limited the brewery's ability to host such events, but Counsil emphasized their return with a spirit of fun and silliness. “Life is scary and mundane enough. Let’s enjoy some beers, marry some dogs, and get on with it,” he stated, capturing the playful essence of the event.

Residents of Halifax, often referred to as Haligonians, have the opportunity to participate in an online contest leading up to the event. This contest, which is open until September 5, allows dog owners to submit their pets for consideration to be the featured couple at the ceremony. Following the contest, the public will vote to choose the winning duo, who will receive not only the honor of being wed at Good Robot Brewing but also available prizes and the title of “eternal puppy love bragging rights,” as noted in the press release.

The wedding ceremony will be followed by a lively reception filled with local vendors, an assortment of dog-friendly treats, engaging games, and, of course, beer for the human attendees. This festive atmosphere is designed to connect dog lovers and foster a sense of community around shared interests in pets and craft beer.

Tickets for this heartfelt event are priced at $10, half of which will be donated to Fly With Me Animal Rescue, a local organization dedicated to animal welfare. This charitable component not only adds value to the ticket purchase but also aligns with Good Robot Brewing's ethos of supporting the community and its furry residents. The event promises to be both entertaining and meaningful, creating a memorable experience for both pets and their owners alike.

‘My Big Fat Dog Wedding’ is expected to draw dog lovers from across Halifax, celebrating not just the love between pets but also the bonds that connect pet owners within the community. As society embraces the idea of including pets in significant life events, Good Robot Brewing’s upcoming celebration sets a fun and heartwarming precedent for future festivities.
