"Israeli Airstrikes in Southern Lebanon: 1 Dead, 7 Hurt"

BEIRUT (AP) — On Saturday, October 11, 2025, Israel conducted significant airstrikes on southern Lebanon, resulting in the death of one person and injuring seven others. The Health Ministry reported that the attacks briefly disrupted a crucial highway linking Beirut to southern parts of Lebanon.

The pre-dawn strikes targeted the village of Msayleh, specifically hitting a location that sold heavy machinery. This assault led to the destruction of numerous vehicles. According to Hezbollah's Al-Manar TV, a vehicle transporting vegetables was caught in the attack, resulting in one fatality and another individual sustaining injuries.

The Health Ministry later confirmed that the deceased was a Syrian national, while among the injured were one Syrian and six Lebanese, which included two women. Israel's military justified the airstrikes by stating that they targeted a site used for storing machinery intended for the reconstruction of infrastructure associated with the militant group Hezbollah.

Since the conclusion of the 14-month Israel-Hezbollah war in late November, which ended with a U.S.-brokered ceasefire, Israel has carried out almost daily airstrikes, resulting in numerous casualties. Israeli officials claim that Hezbollah is attempting to rebuild its military capabilities after suffering substantial losses during the conflict.

Earlier in October 2025, the United Nations human rights chief, Volker Türk, emphasized the need for renewed efforts to achieve a lasting peace in Lebanon following the war. He reported that by the end of September, the U.N. had verified the deaths of 103 civilians in Lebanon due to successive airstrikes since the ceasefire.

The recent Israel-Hezbollah war has claimed over 4,000 lives in Lebanon, among which were hundreds of civilians. Additionally, the conflict has resulted in an estimated $11 billion worth of destruction, as reported by the World Bank. In Israel, the number of fatalities reached 127, including 80 soldiers.

The war commenced on October 8, 2023, when Hezbollah began launching rockets across the border, following a deadly Hamas-led incursion into southern Israel that ignited the war in Gaza. Israel retaliated with shelling and airstrikes in Lebanon, escalating the situation into a full-blown conflict by late September 2024.
