RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) – A devastating tornado struck Brazil’s southern state of Paraná on Friday night, resulting in the deaths of six individuals and injuring over 400 others, according to state officials who provided updates on Saturday.

The tornado reached astonishing wind speeds exceeding 250 kph (155 mph), leading to the destruction of numerous homes across the affected area. In response to this natural disaster, the government declared a state of emergency to facilitate coordinated relief efforts.

As of Saturday morning, state officials reported that at least one individual remained unaccounted for in the aftermath of the tornado. Among those who lost their lives were five adults and a 14-year-old girl, highlighting the tragic impact on families and communities.

The government reported that a total of 437 people, which included children and pregnant women, received medical attention from hospitals and on-site medical units.
