A former emergency room doctor, Sanjeev Sirpal, is currently facing multiple sexual assault charges as an investigation extends across three provinces in Canada. Sirpal previously worked at the Cumberland Regional Health Centre in Amherst, Nova Scotia, and has been implicated in serious allegations in recent months.

In August 2023, Sirpal was originally charged with one count of sexual assault. This charge was connected to an incident that reportedly occurred in January during a patient assessment in the hospital emergency room. Since then, the investigation has led to new developments and additional accusations against him.

On November 4, 2023, police authorities apprehended Sirpal at the Edmundston Police Force headquarters. Following further reports and ongoing investigations, he was charged with five additional counts of sexual assault. These new charges are related directly to his role as a doctor in various hospital emergency rooms, highlighting the serious nature of his alleged offenses.

The investigation into Sirpal’s conduct is being carried out by multiple law enforcement agencies, including the Cumberland County District RCMP, the Sackville, New Brunswick RCMP Detachment, and the Edmundston, New Brunswick Police Force. Authorities believe that there may be more victims who have had interactions with Sirpal during his practice in different locations, including Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Quebec.

Recognizing the difficulty faced by individuals coming forward with their experiences, Cst. Heather Lourie from the Cumberland County Integrated Street Crime Enforcement Unit emphasized the importance of these testimonies. “Investigators appreciate the courage that it takes for someone to come forward and share their experience,” she stated, encouraging potential victims to reach out to police to discuss incidents before deciding to participate in the ongoing investigation or court proceedings.

The situation remains fluid as law enforcement encourages anyone who may have been affected or witnessed incidents involving Sirpal to come forward. The collective efforts of various law enforcement bodies indicate the seriousness with which they are treating the allegations against him and their commitment to uncovering the full extent of any wrongdoing.
