BEIJING (AP) A significant ruling has emerged from a Beijing court regarding Malaysia Airlines and the families of passengers lost in the infamous disappearance of Flight MH370. The court mandated that Malaysia Airlines pay 2.9 million yuan (approximately $410,000) to each of the families of eight passengers who were among those onboard the missing flight.
The compensation awarded by the court is aimed to cover not only the loss of life but also funeral expenses and damages associated with emotional distress experienced by the relatives. Although the exact circumstances surrounding the flight's disappearance remain enigmatic, the passengers have been legally declared dead, allowing these families to seek reparation.
Flight MH370 disappeared on March 8, 2014, after taking off from Kuala Lumpur and heading toward Beijing, carrying a total of 239 passengers and crew members. In a related development, the Malaysian government announced plans to resume the search for the missing aircraft, with operations set to begin on December 30.
