Authorities have unveiled details from a significant ten-month investigation conducted in Calgary and Edmonton, which culminated in a multi-million-dollar drug bust. This extensive operation not only resulted in the confiscation of a substantial quantity of drugs but also led to the recovery of firearms and a large amount of cash.

The investigation focused on a province-wide drug trafficking network that utilized vehicles equipped with hidden compartments to transport drugs and cash predominantly between Alberta's two largest cities, Calgary and Edmonton. According to a news release from the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT), the operation yielded over $7 million worth of illicit drugs, along with $1 million in cash and 17 firearms. The seizure is noted to be among the largest conducted by ALERT in its two-decade history.

Throughout the investigation, authorities executed a series of search warrants across multiple locations, including homes in Calgary, Edmonton, St. Albert, and Sturgeon County. The most recent of these raids occurred on July 16, resulting in the significant recoveries mentioned above. The ALERT team claimed that the operation was grounded in "criminal intelligence into wholesale drug transporters," which underscores the extensive planning and strategic efforts that went into the investigation.

Among the most notable seizures was 66.5 kilograms of cocaine, valued at approximately $6.65 million on the street. This staggering amount of drugs highlights the scale of the trafficking network that authorities have dismantled. Additionally, ALERT revealed that they uncovered a large sum of cash amounting to $1,156,863, marking the largest cash seizure recorded by the agency in its history.

Arrests Made but Charges Pending

While several suspects have been arrested in connection with this case, police have stated that no charges have been formally laid as of yet. Investigators are currently working on preparing reports and disclosure documents for Crown Counsel, which may initiate the legal process against those apprehended.

In this extensive operation, ALERT reported the recovery of various drugs, including the following:

• 1.5 kilograms of fentanyl
• 3,494 suspected fentanyl pills
• 1.5 kilograms of methamphetamine
• 2.3 kilograms of psilocybin mushrooms
• 17 firearms
• Eight vehicles
