A 54-year-old man named Andrew Peter Lawrence has been charged with two offenses related to child exploitation after an investigation initiated by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) in July. The police received a report indicating that Lawrence had allegedly communicated online with a youth for sexual purposes in the Lower Sackville area of Nova Scotia.
On September 9, multiple units from the RCMP, along with Halifax Regional Police, executed a search warrant at Lawrence's residence located on Langevin Drive. During the search, officials seized several electronic devices as potential evidence in the case.
As a consequence of the investigation, Lawrence is facing serious charges, including luring a child and making sexually explicit material available to a child. Following his arrest, he was released under certain conditions and is expected to appear in court in Dartmouth on October 13.
Law enforcement officers have raised concerns that there may be additional victims who were targeted in the online communications. Authorities are encouraging guardians to proactively discuss online safety with young people to help protect them against potential exploitation.
