The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) are currently investigating an alarming incident of dangerous driving after a video surfaced showing a driver exceeding speeds of 300 km/h on what appears to be a provincial road. This shocking footage has been making rounds on social media, particularly in a Facebook group known as Caught on DashCam, which is based in Nova Scotia.
The video, reportedly originating from TikTok, features a driver and a passenger speeding recklessly down a roadway at night. The footage transitions from shots of the road to the vehicle's speedometer, which continues to rise dramatically. Such displays of dangerous driving have raised significant concerns regarding road safety, prompting police involvement.
According to a statement from the RCMP, officers first became aware of the video and accompanying comments posted online on September 12. The video purportedly captures a Chevrolet Corvette C8 being driven at absurd speeds in the Antigonish area. Following the release of the video, law enforcement has received additional complaints that may link this vehicle to other incidents of reckless driving in the region.
In reference to the gravity of the situation, the Mounties emphasized the perilous nature of driving at such high speeds. When a vehicle reaches speeds of 300 km/h, it is traveling at more than 83 meters per second, which translates to a substantial distance needed for the car to come to a complete stop. In a statement, Sergeant James Jessome of the Antigonish RCMP highlighted the inherent dangers associated with such extreme speeding, stating, “Driving at these speeds is not a thrill; it’s a serious danger. One mistake can have devastating consequences for the driver, passengers, and other road users. Choosing to slow down and drive responsibly helps keep everyone safe.”
