Scherzer may have one final opportunity to pitch for the Blue Jays in the season's last game against the Cincinnati Reds, scheduled for Sunday, although that decision has not been officially confirmed.

The Blue Jays' elimination from postseason play was not entirely surprising. Entering Wednesday's match, the team found themselves in a precarious position, needing to win all their remaining games while also relying on either the Chicago White Sox or Cleveland Guardians to lose all their games to secure a spot in October.

This season has been particularly disappointing for the Blue Jays, especially after they came so close to clinching the World Series title in 2025, falling just one win short. The team's struggles this season included a series of significant injuries to key players and a notably subpar performance from slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

Despite the tough outcome, the Blue Jays have four games left on their schedule. This includes the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Orioles, which is set to begin at 6:35 p.m. ET / 3:35 p.m. PT, and will be broadcasted on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+.

After Wednesday’s doubleheader, the Blue Jays will have an off day on Thursday before concluding their season with a three-game series against the Cincinnati Reds in Toronto.
