NEW GLASGOW, NOVA SCOTIA – A Nova Scotia law firm, MacGillivray Injury and Insurance Law, has announced that it has served a notice of intended class action against the Chignecto Central Regional Centre for Education, alongside a teacher accused of abusing students. This legal action is initiated on behalf of students who attended the Learning Centre at Dr. W.A. MacLeod Consolidated School in Riverton, Nova Scotia.
A 53-year-old teacher from Bible Hill, Nova Scotia, is currently facing serious legal repercussions, with 10 criminal charges filed against him. These include two counts of assault by choking, sexual assault, and administering a noxious substance. The court documents indicate that these alleged offenses occurred between September 3 and September 10, 2026, affecting four identified victims.
The law firm representing the plaintiffs has confirmed that there are currently four individuals involved in the class action lawsuit. They are actively seeking additional parents and guardians of students who attended the Learning Centre during the specified time frame of September 1, 2025, to September 10, 2026. This outreach effort is critical in ensuring that any other potential victims are provided the opportunity to come forward and participate in the legal proceedings.
In light of the allegations, the Nova Scotia RCMP reported that the school district took immediate action by removing the teacher’s access to the school and its students following the initial report of assault. Such measures aim to safeguard students and prevent any further incidents while the legal processes unfold.
This unfolding situation is indicative of the broader issues surrounding educational environments and the safety of students. As attention focuses on this case, the involvement of the law firm underscores the seriousness with which these allegations are being treated, aiming to hold accountable those responsible for the welfare of students.
Experts in legal and educational fields will likely monitor the outcomes of this case closely, as it may set important precedents regarding responsibility and accountability within school districts. The implications for both the affected families and the legal system are significant as society grapples with ensuring the protection of children in educational settings.
