The United States Coast Guard has reported locating debris from an Ontario air ambulance that went missing off the eastern coast of the U.S. on Saturday, October 3, 2026. The aircraft, a Gulfstream G100 jet, was en route from Bermuda to Boston when it lost contact with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Saturday morning.
Onboard the plane were six individuals, including four Canadians and two Bermudian nationals. As soon as the FAA lost contact, the U.S. Coast Guard launched a comprehensive search mission. This effort involves both air and ground crews operating off the coast of Nantucket, an island situated about 150 kilometers southeast of Boston. The search operations include the deployment of two planes, a search and rescue lifeboat, a helicopter, and a cutter, all dedicated to locating the aircraft and its occupants.
Latitude Air Ambulance, a Hamilton-based medical evacuation service, owns the aircraft. Clarence Togeretz, the operations manager for the company, clarified that the plane was transporting a patient along with their family member, two pilots, and two medical staff. Latitude Air Ambulance was monitoring the flight and immediately notified the U.S. Coast Guard when the plane failed to arrive at its destination in Boston.
Togeretz remarked on the situation, stating that the company is approaching the crisis with "as much positivity and optimism as we can." He emphasized that they are "praying for a safe outcome." Furthermore, he mentioned this marks the first occasion that Latitude Air Ambulance has lost contact with one of its flights.
In response to the news of the missing aircraft, Ontario's air ambulance service provider, Ornge, expressed hope that "the aircraft and all passengers are located safely and quickly" via a social media post. Togeretz confirmed that Latitude Air Ambulance is in communication with Transport Canada regarding the incident.
Additionally, Federal Transportation Minister Steven MacKinnon has stated that he is aware of the situation. He expressed his support for those on board and their families during this difficult time, mentioning that the relevant authorities are being collaborated with as search and rescue operations continue.
