The provincial government has announced the lifting of restrictions on activities in the woods for two more counties, effective today at 4 p.m. Specifically, Colchester and Pictou counties will see the end of these restrictions, adding to the counties where such limitations have previously been lifted.
Premier Tim Houston emphasized the importance of monitoring conditions closely through the insights of experts. He stated, “Our experts are watching the conditions closely, and they’ve advised we are safe to lift the woods restrictions in two more counties.” He expressed gratitude to the public for their cooperative efforts in preventing wildfires throughout a challenging season, noting, “With every passing day, we’re closer to getting people’s lives back to normal.”
The lifting of woods restrictions in Colchester and Pictou follows previous announcements made at the end of August, during which restrictions were also lifted in several other counties, including Halifax. This progressive relaxation of restrictions marks a significant step towards normalcy for residents affected by wildfire dangers this season.
However, it is important to note that the ban on activities in the woods remains in place for a number of other counties. The specific areas still affected by these restrictions include:
- Cumberland
- Hants
- Lunenburg
- Kings
- Annapolis
- Queens
- Shelburne
- Digby
The provincial government has also extended the burn ban that remains in effect across the province. This ongoing ban reflects the caution that residents and officials alike must maintain during this lingering period of heightened wildfire risk. The government continues to monitor the situation closely, encouraging vigilance and adherence to safety protocols as wildfire conditions can change rapidly.
As communities move toward recovery and a return to normal activities, the governance bodies are striving for a balanced approach that keeps public safety at the forefront while allowing residents to engage in outdoor activities once more as conditions permit.
