ISLAND PARK, Idaho (AP) – A tragic accident occurred in eastern Idaho near Yellowstone National Park, resulting in the deaths of seven individuals. According to the Idaho State Police, a collision took place between a Dodge Ram pickup truck and a Mercedes passenger van, which was carrying a tour group.

The incident happened just before 7:15 p.m. on a Thursday evening, on a highway close to Henry’s Lake State Park. Notably, this state park is situated approximately 16 miles (25.75 kilometers) west of Yellowstone National Park, a popular destination for tourists.

Following the crash, both vehicles caught fire, complicating the rescue efforts. The driver of the Dodge Ram pickup was reported dead at the scene. Tragically, six individuals traveling in the Mercedes passenger van also lost their lives in the collision. The van was transporting a tour group that consisted of 14 people, although it remains unclear how many others, if any, sustained injuries in the crash.

As of now, the Fremont County Coroner’s office has not released the identities of the deceased victims. Additionally, the Idaho State Police have not provided details regarding the number or severity of injuries sustained by the other passengers in the van or any other vehicles involved.
