KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — An overnight missile and drone attack by Russian forces on Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, has resulted in the deaths of at least four individuals and left several others injured. Ukraine's emergency services reported that rescue workers and firefighters have been engaged in efforts to locate people believed to be trapped under the debris of a partially collapsed apartment building.

The assault occurred less than a week after a significant Russian attack on the previous Tuesday, which claimed the lives of 28 people in Kyiv, with 23 fatalities occurring in a residential building that collapsed due to a direct missile hit. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has labeled that incident as one of the most extensive bombardments in the ongoing conflict, which has now entered its fourth year.

In the early hours of Monday, various districts in Kyiv were targeted, leading to strikes on residential areas, hospitals, and sports facilities. The Shevchenkivskyi district bore the brunt of the damage, where one section of a five-story apartment building collapsed. Emergency services confirmed that while four people were confirmed dead in the collapse, ten others had been rescued, and they suspect that additional individuals may still be trapped under the rubble.

Additionally, another individual was reported killed, with eight others injured in the city of Bila Tserkva, located approximately 85 kilometers (53 miles) southwest of Kyiv. As the situation continues to develop, emergency response teams remain vigilant in their search and rescue operations.

The repeated acts of violence highlight the ongoing challenges faced by civilians in Ukraine amidst the protracted conflict. As rescue efforts persist, the toll of the war continues to grow, with both deaths and injuries mounting from targeted strikes across various urban centers.
