A local man is currently facing serious legal charges after being accused of a disturbing incident involving a child at a beach in Nova Scotia.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) reported that the incident took place on Saturday evening, specifically just before 7:30 p.m. They received calls indicating a hit and run had occurred at Huckleberry Lane in the New Ross area, where the child was struck by a vehicle.
According to law enforcement, a Ford F-250 was the vehicle involved in the incident, which took place in a beach parking lot. Following the collision, the driver fled the scene, prompting alarm from bystanders and family members.
A member of the child's family acted swiftly by transporting the injured child to the New Ross Volunteer Fire Department for immediate medical assistance. Subsequently, an Emergency Health Services (EHS) crew transported the child to a hospital, where it was reported that the injuries sustained were non-life-threatening.
As the investigation progressed, officers were able to locate the suspected vehicle—a Ford F-250—parked along New Russell Road shortly before 9 p.m. That evening, authorities apprehended the driver, identified as 35-year-old Jacob Thomas Walker from Chester Grant.
Walker now faces multiple charges, including failing to remain at the scene of the accident and impaired operation of a motor vehicle. The nature of these charges suggests serious implications, particularly as they involve the safety of a minor. The legal proceedings are anticipated to unfold quickly, with Walker expected to appear in court on the following Monday in Bridgewater.
This incident highlights significant concerns regarding road safety, especially in areas frequented by families and children. The quick actions of the child's family and local medical responders were crucial in ensuring that the child received the necessary care after the accident. The community is likely to be closely following the legal developments regarding this case, as it raises questions about accountability and public safety in residential areas.
The RCMP are continuing their investigation and are urging anyone with further information about the hit-and-run incident to come forward. The local authorities are committed to maintaining safety on the roads and are taking this case very seriously.
