MONTREAL – In a recent incident that has sparked concern within the community, Montreal police have announced that a 23-year-old man, Sergio Yanes Preciado, has been charged with assault causing bodily harm. This charge follows an altercation that occurred at Dickie Moore park in Villeray–St-Michel–Parc-Extension on August 8, 2025, involving a 32-year-old Jewish father who was at the park with his young children.
The assault began when the victim was sprayed with water from a bottle. When he attempted to confront Preciado, the situation escalated rapidly. According to police reports, the father was pushed to the ground and subsequently punched and kneed by the assailant before Preciado fled the scene on foot. The incident's violent nature has raised alarms, especially given the context of rising concerns regarding antisemitism in various communities.
Authorities were able to partially capture the incident on video, which played a critical role in the investigation. Preciado was arrested by police on Monday following the incident. He was subsequently brought before a judge at a detention center located in Montreal’s north end, where he made a brief appearance.
