A rising star from the Halifax music scene, Lindsay Misiner, is set to elevate her career with the release of her new song, Feelings, which debuted on Friday. This track represents a significant milestone for Misiner as a singer-songwriter, revealing a bolder sound and a fresh confidence in her artistry. The collaboration with acclaimed producer Shannon Sanders, a three-time Grammy Award winner, has proven to be transformative for her creative journey.
Misiner recounts their meeting at Nova Scotia Music Week a couple of years ago, where Sanders approached her with a promise, saying, “I’m going to change your life.” Following this encounter, he attended her showcase and was captivated by her vocal performance. Reflecting on the experience, Misiner humorously recalls how her eye-catching posters played a pivotal role in catching Sanders's attention. “I stepped up my visual branding and it actually made a difference,” she says.
Following their initial meeting, Misiner traveled to Nashville to collaborate with Sanders, who has an impressive history of working with music legends such as John Legend, Jonny Lang, and India.Arie. This partnership led to the creation of Feelings, a song that delves into the intricate emotional landscapes of love, relationships, and the generational wounds that often go unspoken.
For Misiner, collaborating with someone of Sanders's caliber was an incredible opportunity for personal and professional development. She expresses admiration for his wealth of industry experience and the insights he provided, ranging from vocal techniques to innovative approaches in songwriting. “He really pushed me to expand beyond my reach with my vocal ability,” she shares, emphasizing the value of collaborative writing in enhancing her craft. “Two people coming together writing is always something that is healthy for any writer,” she adds, noting how Sanders helped her articulate her emotions in a way she might not have achieved alone.
The fruitful collaboration between Misiner and Sanders extends beyond Feelings. She reveals that they have co-written another song that she is eager to record and release in the upcoming months. Misiner expresses her love for Nashville, describing the music scene, the people, and the food as wonderful. “I just need an excuse to get back down there,” she says, hoping Sanders will provide that opportunity.
As she looks forward to more opportunities in Nashville, Misiner remains busy in her home province of Nova Scotia. Later this month, she is set to attend the East Coast Music Awards in Sydney, where she has received nominations for two prestigious awards: breakthrough artist of the year and R&B/Soul release of the year for her song I Saw an Angel, released in 2025. Additionally, she will perform Feelings alongside Sanders during a showcase at the awards event, scheduled for May 20-24.
