The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) from the Halifax detachment responded to a single-vehicle crash in Timberlea that left a passenger with minor injuries. The incident occurred on October 10, 2026, at around 1:30 p.m. on Brunello Boulevard, close to the Links at Brunello golf course.
Upon their arrival, officers found a golf cart that had rolled over, with both the driver and the injured passenger situated nearby. The officers conducted interviews and provided necessary medical treatment to the passenger, who was assessed for minor injuries. During their investigation, police suspected that the driver was impaired as the roadside breath sample he provided failed to meet legal standards.
The driver, a 33-year-old man from Halifax, was subsequently arrested and taken to the Tantallon detachment. There, he provided two additional breath samples, both registering at 130 mg per cent, which is considerably above the legal limit. Following this, the man was released from custody but is expected to appear in court at a later date.
RCMP officials emphasized the seriousness of the incident, stating, “No matter what vehicle a person chooses to operate, impaired is impaired.” They urged the public to take action if they suspect someone is about to drive while impaired, advising that individuals should take away the keys from such drivers, assist them in finding a safe mode of transportation, or contact the authorities if necessary.
This incidents highlights ongoing concerns about impaired driving, not only in traditional vehicles but also when operating other types of transport, such as golf carts. The RCMP’s strict stance on impaired driving reflects a broader commitment to community safety and the reduction of alcohol-related incidents on the road.
