BAGHDAD (AP) – Early on Sunday, multiple Iraqi political officials were apprehended on allegations of corruption, according to the state-run Iraqi News Agency. This development stems from statements made by former Deputy Minister of Oil Adnan al-Jumaili, who was detained last month on similar charges. Notably, the arrests involved members of Parliament whose legislative immunity had been revoked.
Iraqi security forces took decisive action by sealing off all entrances to the heavily fortified Green Zone in Baghdad and conducting raids within the compound, which houses critical government institutions and foreign embassies. A security agency report reviewed by The Associated Press revealed that seven individuals were arrested, including five members of Parliament.
