Police in Bedford have made an arrest following an incident involving a man suspected of driving while impaired by drugs. This event unfolded on a Tuesday afternoon, around 4 p.m., when the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) received reports of an erratic driver in the vicinity of Pockwock Road.
The situation escalated when a Hyundai Veracruz was observed traveling east towards Bedford, exhibiting dangerous swerving movements on the roadway. While the RCMP were en route to address the situation, Halifax Regional Police (HRP) officers were also dispatched after receiving information about the same vehicle, which had subsequently left the road and ended up in a ditch located on Larry Uteck Boulevard.
Upon arrival, the RCMP discovered the driver inside the Hyundai Veracruz. Observations made by the officers indicated signs of impairment, leading to the man's arrest. Although he successfully passed a roadside alcohol screening test, the subsequent evaluation conducted by an HRP drug recognition expert concluded that he was indeed impaired by drugs.
The individual taken into custody is a 29-year-old man from Halifax. He is expected to appear in Halifax Provincial Court at a later date to face charges related to the impaired driving incident.
This incident highlights the dangers of impaired driving, particularly under the influence of drugs. Authorities continue to conduct thorough investigations into impaired driving cases to ensure public safety on the roads.
