"84-Year-Old Nancy Guthrie Disappears in Arizona"

The back doors of Nancy Guthrie’s Arizona home were found propped open and her phone and purse were still at the home when the 84-year-old disappeared, daughter Savannah Guthrie said in an interview that aired Thursday on NBC’s “Today,” her first since her mother’s apparent abduction

The disappearance of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie from her Tucson, Arizona home has sent shockwaves through her family and the public. According to her daughter, Savannah Guthrie, Nancy was reported missing on February 1. Key details concerning her disappearance include the back doors of her home being propped open, her phone and purse left behind, as well as blood on the front doorstep and surveillance footage capturing a masked man at her front door on the night she vanished.

During an emotional interview aired on NBC’s “Today,” Savannah expressed that the family was well aware that their mother, who suffered greatly, would not have wandered off on her own. Savannah noted, "So we were saying, 'This is not OK'... ‘Something is very wrong here.’” The disturbing conditions surrounding her mother’s disappearance have led her brother to immediately suspect that it might be a kidnapping for ransom.

Struggling with her emotions, Savannah recounted her immediate reaction to her brother's claim, saying, “I said, ‘What?’ And then, I mean, it sounds so, like, how dumb could I be? But I just didn’t want to believe. I just said, 'Do you think because of me?'" Her brother responded, acknowledging that it indeed might have been connected to her high-profile status.

As the family navigates their heart-wrenching ordeal, they have offered a $1 million reward for information that could lead to Nancy’s safe recovery. The FBI has been instrumental in the investigation, releasing surveillance videos showcasing the masked man seen outside the Guthrie home. In light of these developments, Savannah cannot shake the distressing thought that her public career may have contributed to her mother’s abduction. “If it is me, I’m so sorry,” she expressed, grappling with the burden of that possibility.

Several purported ransom notes have emerged since Nancy’s disappearance. Savannah mentioned that some of these messages were determined to be fake; however, she and her siblings believed that at least two of them were legitimate, putting them in a situation that felt surreal. Reflecting on this predicament, Savannah questioned, “How is it possible that we are having to make a video speaking to a kidnapper who took an 84-year-old woman in the dead of night, in her pajamas, with no shoes, without her medicine?”

The situation has been compounded by troubling rumors suggesting that a family member might have played a role in Nancy's abduction. Savannah was taken aback by these assertions, stating, "No one took better care of my mom than my sister and brother-in-law. And no one protected my mom more than my brother.” The family has expressed profound frustration and confusion over the speculation surrounding their involvement.

In her heartfelt plea, Savannah urged anyone with information to step forward, emphasizing, “We cannot be at peace without knowing and someone can do the right thing. It is never too late to do the right thing and our hearts are focused on that.” The investigation remains ongoing, with the family longing for closure and answers regarding Nancy Guthrie’s fate.
