"Xi Emphasizes Strong China-Russia Ties Amid Chaos"

BEIJING (AP) — Chinese President Xi Jinping said Wednesday that the stability and certainty of China-Russia relations are particularly “precious” in the face of an international landscape intertwined with change and chaos

In a recent meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Beijing, Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized the importance of stability and certainty in China-Russia relations amidst an increasingly chaotic international landscape. Xi noted that the strong bond between the two countries is particularly valuable in the face of ongoing global changes, which remain vague but critical to the regions' geopolitical dynamics.

During their discussions, Xi highlighted the need for both nations' foreign ministries to act on the consensus reached between him and Russian President Vladimir Putin. He called for enhanced strategic communication and closer diplomatic cooperation. Xi urged these ministries to elevate their comprehensive strategic partnership so they can "stand higher, walk more steadily, and go further," reflecting a unified front against external pressures.

While expressing the significance of the friendship and cooperation between China and Russia, Xi avoided specifics about the "chaos and changes" he referenced. This ambiguity ties into current global uncertainties, such as the ongoing war in Iran, the duration of which remains unclear. U.S. President Donald Trump, in an interview with Fox Business Network, claimed the conflict is "close to over," asserting a narrative of victory despite the complexities on the ground.

Relations between China and Russia have been strengthening over the past few years, particularly in light of Russia's invasion of Ukraine in early 2022. Trump's unconventional strategies concerning the Ukraine conflict have added an intriguing element to the diplomatic dynamics but have seemingly not altered the fundamental aspects of the relationship between Beijing and Moscow.

In September 2022, when Putin visited China, the camaraderie was evident as Xi referred to him as an "old friend," while Putin reciprocated the affection by addressing Xi as a "dear friend." This exchange reflects the deepening ties and mutual support shared between the two leaders.

Lavrov’s visit to China marks a two-day event at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi. This meeting highlights the ongoing dialogues and collaboration between the two countries as they navigate through a tumultuous international arena.

The strategic partnership between China and Russia is significant on various fronts, including political, economic, and military dimensions. As they work together, both nations aim to counterbalance Western influence and assert their positions on the global stage.
