QUEBEC – Another member of the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) cabinet has announced their departure from politics. Labour Minister Jean Boulet has declared that he will not seek re-election in the upcoming provincial election scheduled for October 5, 2026. This decision comes as he addresses his constituents in his riding of Trois-Rivières.

Having first been elected in 2018, Boulet has held various cabinet positions during his tenure under the leadership of former premier François Legault and currently under Premier Christine Fréchette. His roles have included critical areas such as labour, immigration, economy, and Canadian relations, showcasing his extensive involvement in government.

In a statement regarding his departure, Boulet expressed his desire to pursue other professional opportunities after completing eight years in various governmental portfolios. His decision to exit the political arena is noted amid a significant trend within the CAQ, as approximately 30 members of the legislature from the party have chosen not to run again, including several prominent cabinet figures.

Boulet emphasized that his choice to retire from politics was not influenced by the party's struggles with low polling numbers. He clarified that he continues to support Premier Fréchette and is optimistic about the party’s future despite recent electoral challenges.

This announcement is part of a broader shift in the CAQ, reflecting the changing political landscape in Quebec. Boulet’s exit marks yet another significant change in the ranks of the CAQ as the party prepares for the approaching election cycle.
