In the early hours of Monday, Halifax Regional Police (HRP) responded to a call reporting a possible hostage situation at an apartment complex located on River Lane in Bedford. The initial call came in at 12:30 a.m. from a man who claimed to have shot his father and was allegedly holding his mother hostage. This alarming report prompted an immediate police response.

Upon arrival at the scene, HRP officers took precautions to evacuate nearby residents while they sought to assess the situation. They made contact with the man's parents, who confirmed that they were both safe and unharmed. This information indicated that the original report may not have been accurate.

Following the initial investigation, the man believed to have made the call exited the apartment. However, he appeared to have no knowledge of the reported incident. This raised further questions regarding the authenticity of the initial distress signal.
