In a tragic incident on Saturday evening, police allege that CFL player Jayden Dalke was driving on the wrong side of Highway 11 in Saskatchewan when his vehicle collided with another vehicle, resulting in the deaths of both drivers. The crash occurred around 9 p.m., approximately 30 minutes after Dalke allegedly left a gas station in Lumsden, Saskatchewan, without paying for fuel.

According to RCMP spokesperson Mandy Maier, a report was received at around 8:27 p.m. regarding a silver SUV leaving a gas station without paying. Investigators later confirmed that this was the same vehicle involved in the fatal collision. Reports indicate that alcohol and cannabis were found in Dalke's vehicle; however, there were no witnesses indicating that the SUV was being driven erratically prior to the incident.

The Lumsden RCMP reported that Dalke, who was driving north in the southbound lane of Highway 11, crashed into another vehicle driven by 22-year-old Bhishma Rajyaguru from Regina. Both drivers were alone in their vehicles at the time of the crash. Autopsies and toxicology tests are currently being conducted as part of the ongoing investigation.

Bhishma Rajyaguru, who had moved to Canada from Gujarat, India, in 2022 as an international student, was remembered as a talented musician and a cricket enthusiast by his friend, Tonish Patel. Rajyaguru's sudden passing on his father’s birthday has deeply affected his friends and family, many of whom are now working together to raise funds to repatriate his body to India.

The Gujarati Samaj of Saskatchewan, a charity organization that supports Gujarati immigrants, expressed their condolences on social media, stating their sorrow over Rajyaguru's death and offering support to his family during this challenging period.

Emergency services arrived at the scene to find one vehicle in the median of the divided highway and the other in a ditch. Civilians initially attempted to provide aid, but ultimately, the Lumsden Fire Department took over life-saving efforts, which were unsuccessful. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene, with one trapped in the median and the other found in the ditch.

On the following Monday, the Saskatchewan Roughriders organization held a news conference in memory of Dalke, who was a 30-year-old linebacker from Leduc, Alberta. A sixth-round pick in the 2022 CFL draft, he had played a total of 68 regular-season games, accumulating 69 tackles, 31 special-teams tackles, three forced fumbles, an interception, and a sack. In 2025, Dalke participated in all 18 regular-season games, helped the team reach the West final, and celebrated a Grey Cup victory against the Montreal Alouettes.

Jeremy O'Day, the general manager of the Roughriders, shared heartfelt sentiments at the news conference, emphasizing Dalke’s positive demeanor and love for football and his teammates. O'Day remarked, "You never left the conversation with Jayden where you didn't feel happy," highlighting the camaraderie and affection his teammates held for him.
