SAN DIEGO (AP) - Ryan Gosling has officially joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as Ghost Rider. This announcement came during a highly anticipated panel at Comic-Con International in San Diego, where Gosling reunited with his Star Wars: Starfighter director, Shawn Levy, for a film scheduled to be released in 2028. The crowd in Hall H was electrifying, filled with approximately 7,000 fans, many of whom donned Doctor Doom masks distributed by the studio.
Gosling’s involvement in the Ghost Rider character is notable, especially given that his longtime partner, Eva Mendes, starred alongside Nicolas Cage in the original standalone Ghost Rider film, which debuted in 2007—just a year before Iron Man launched what would become the expansive Marvel Cinematic Universe. Following the 2007 film, a sequel was produced by Sony and released in 2012. However, the film rights for Ghost Rider have since reverted to Marvel, and the character has yet to make an appearance in the MCU.
Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige was present at the panel and informed the audience that Joe and Anthony Russo’s critically acclaimed film, Avengers: Endgame, will be re-released in theaters on September 25. This special re-release will include new footage that connects to the Russos’ upcoming film, Avengers: Doomsday, set to hit theaters on December 18.
