According to meteorologists, Hernan was located approximately 1,460 miles (2,350 kilometers) west of the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula in Mexico. The storm exhibited maximum sustained winds of around 40 mph (64 kph) while moving in a westward direction.
In contrast, a separate weather system identified as potential Tropical Cyclone One-C was situated about 775 miles (1,247 kilometers) east-southeast of Hawaii. This system is forecasted to bring significant weather impacts, including heavy rain, high winds, and hazardous surf conditions to the Hawaiian Islands starting late Friday. Current wind speeds were also measured at around 40 mph, but the system lacked the organization required to be classified as a tropical storm, as reported by the Miami-based National Hurricane Center.
Forecasters indicated that Tropical Cyclone One-C could make landfall in the southern region of the Big Island as a tropical storm on Saturday. Expected rainfall totals from this system are projected to range from 5 to 10 inches (13 to 25 centimeters) across the island chain, with localized amounts potentially reaching up to 20 inches (51 centimeters). Such heavy rainfall could lead to flooding and mudslides, posing a risk to residents and infrastructure in Hawaii.
Meanwhile, in the Atlantic Ocean, Tropical Storm Cristobal weakened into a tropical depression and was anticipated to dissipate on Thursday. The storm was located approximately 610 miles (982 kilometers) west of the Azores and posed no immediate threat to land areas in that region.
