In an effort to bolster these preparedness initiatives, the provincial government of Nova Scotia is allocating over $800,000 to regional emergency management organizations.
The funding is intended to support 12 different organizations, including one located in the Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM). These organizations will utilize the financial resources for various essential activities such as enhancing communication systems, hiring staff, renting office spaces, providing training programs, and developing comprehensive emergency preparedness plans. The support spans a timeline of one to four years, reaffirming the province's commitment to community safety and resilience.
Kim Masland, the Minister of Emergency Management, emphasized the significance of investing in emergency response, stating, "Funding emergency response is an investment in safety, resilience, and lives. Every dollar spent through this grant strengthens the capacity of an entire region in Nova Scotia." This investment aims not only to tackle immediate emergency needs but also to create long-term benefits for the communities involved.

The municipalities benefiting from this funding include Halifax Regional Municipality, Cape Breton Regional Municipality, Digby, Queens, Antigonish, Colchester, Guysborough, Lunenburg, Pictou, Shelburne, Yarmouth, Victoria, Inverness, and Richmond counties. Elspeth McLean-Wile, Mayor of the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg, commented on the necessity of investing in preparedness amid increasing emergency occurrences, stating, "As we continue to see more frequent and complex emergencies, investing in preparedness has never been more important."
