"Driver Arrested with Loaded Gun in Traffic Stop"

An RCMP officer pulled over a vehicle north of Halifax for traffic enforcement, but instead several serious gun charges were laid

An RCMP officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle north of Halifax, which unexpectedly led to the discovery of serious gun-related charges against the driver. The incident occurred on November 3, 2023, at approximately 10:05 a.m. while the officer was patrolling Highway 102 in Goffs. The vehicle in question was a Dodge Ram, and the officer noted that it had tinted front windows along with a license plate that was not registered to it.

Upon further investigation, the RCMP confirmed that the driver of the Dodge Ram, identified as 26-year-old Jessiah Jamall David Elliot-Sisco from Grand Desert, was prohibited from operating a motor vehicle anywhere in Canada. As a result, he was arrested, and a search of the truck was conducted during which police discovered a loaded handgun concealed within the vehicle.

Following the discovery of the firearm, Elliot-Sisco faced multiple charges as part of the investigation. These charges include driving while prohibited, failing to comply with a probation order, and careless use of a firearm. Additionally, he is charged with contravening storage regulations and transportation regulations, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and carrying a concealed weapon. Other serious allegations include unauthorized possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm while knowing that such possession was unauthorized. Furthermore, he is charged with possession of a prohibited weapon with the same knowledge, as well as possession of a firearm contrary to an order.

Elliot-Sisco is expected to make an appearance in Dartmouth court in December 2023 regarding these charges. Following his arrest, he was released from custody, pending the court proceedings. The situation highlights the ongoing concerns regarding firearm regulations and traffic enforcement in Canada, particularly in relation to individuals who are prohibited from possessing firearms.

This incident serves as a reminder of the vital role law enforcement plays in maintaining public safety and adhering to regulations surrounding vehicle operation and firearm possession. The RCMP continues to investigate similar incidents to ensure the safety of the community and uphold the law.
