"Halifax Police Make Dangerous Arrest After Crash"

Halifax police arrested a dangerous person after the suspect crashed into multiple vehicles

Halifax police recently apprehended a dangerous suspect following a series of vehicle collisions. This incident took place on August 31, around 3:15 p.m., when officers responded to reports of a two-vehicle crash near the 30 block of Fairfax Drive in Halifax. Upon arrival, one of the drivers noticed the officers approaching and reportedly "reversed into a power pole and drove off at a high rate of speed," according to the police press release.

The suspect then ran a red light and collided with several other vehicles while attempting to flee the scene. Although officers pursued the vehicle, they were forced to terminate the chase due to traffic and safety concerns.

With assistance from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), the Halifax officers managed to locate the suspect's vehicle on Riverview Drive in Tantallon. The driver, a 30-year-old man, was subsequently arrested and is now facing multiple charges.

The charges against him include:

  • Operation of a conveyance while impaired
  • Failure to stop after an accident
  • Dangerous operation of a conveyance
  • Flight from a peace officer
  • Mischief

The suspect is expected to appear in court at a later date to address these allegations.

‘Threatened to inject drugs’

This was not the only significant incident during the busy long weekend for Halifax police. Over the course of the three-day period, the police received a staggering 1,052 calls for service.

In one particularly alarming case on August 30, just after midnight, officers responded to a robbery in progress at a Needs Convenience store on Duffus Street. The situation escalated when a woman entered the store and demanded cash while reportedly threatening to "inject an employee with drugs."

A brief physical altercation ensued; however, the employee managed to escape and lock the suspect inside the store. In a destructive act, the woman threw the cash register at the glass front door, shattering it, as police described the scene.

The suspect, identified as Kaily Kathleen Walkden, 29, was arrested shortly after the incident and faced a series of charges, including:

  • Robbery
  • Uttering threats to cause bodily harm or death
  • Mischief
  • Obstructing a public peace officer
  • Bail violations (x2)

The swift response of Halifax police to both incidents demonstrates their continued commitment to public safety, especially during busy times such as long weekends.
