A fire in Middle Sackville on September 15, 2025, has left dozens of residents homeless and without their belongings. The three-alarm blaze resulted in the evacuation of approximately 180 people, and firefighters reported significant structural damage to the apartment building, particularly the roof, which could not be saved during the firefighting efforts.
As a result of the devastating fire, many residents are unable to access their apartments even for essential items. At present, families from 43 of the building's 64 units have registered with the Red Cross and the evacuation center set up at the Springfield Lake Recreation Centre. In response to the crisis, several fundraising initiatives have emerged to assist those affected.
One notable fundraiser is for Caitlin Pelrine and her three-year-old daughter, Logan. Madison Lunn, the organizer of the fundraiser, describes Pelrine as a single mother who has dedicated herself to providing the best life for her daughter. Tragically, Pelrine and Logan lost all their possessions in the fire, leaving them to face the daunting challenge of starting over without any belongings. Lunn's fundraiser aims to collect donations for essentials such as clothing, food, and other necessities necessary for rebuilding their lives.
Other families are also experiencing similar hardships. Jay Crossley has started a fundraiser for his father, John, who, along with his wife and stepchildren, lost everything in the fire. The family did not have insurance coverage, exacerbating their already difficult situation. Crossley emphasized the gravity of the situation and the need for community support, stating that any contribution would be helpful.
The impact of the fire extends beyond human losses; pets have also been affected. A friend of Adam and Abbi, a couple who suffered losses in the blaze, reported that their cat is suffering from smoke inhalation and requires urgent veterinary care. The friend highlighted that this emergency, along with the need for basic necessities, is overwhelming for the couple. A GoFundMe campaign has been initiated to provide support to help them regain stability after this heartbreaking ordeal.
As recovery efforts continue, Bailee Edgercombe is raising funds for friends who faced the unimaginable loss. Their situation reflects a growing need for community assistance, with several families working to navigate the aftermath of the disaster. Edgercombe’s fundraiser highlights that the pair, along with their baby, have managed to escape the fire without physical harm, but they are now confronted with significant financial challenges.
Another individual, Monika Mann, has also been highlighted in fundraising efforts. Her colleague, Shivam Pandey, has started a GoFundMe initiative aimed at helping Mann replace her possessions, which were entirely destroyed in the fire. Pandey stressed the urgency of the situation, explaining that Mann is attempting to start anew and needs immediate support for housing and basic necessities.
The road ahead for all the fire survivors is fraught with challenges and uncertainties. The community has come together through various fundraising efforts to provide hope and assistance to those who have lost so much in this unfortunate event. As the stories of these individuals emerge, the collective spirit of support shines through, revealing the resilience of a community responding to tragedy.
