"Woman Charged After Stolen Vehicle Chase, Collision"

Regional police have laid multiple charges against a woman in connection to the theft of a vehicle and a collision involving a police cruiser earlier this week

Regional police have charged a woman in relation to a series of incidents involving a stolen vehicle and a subsequent collision with police vehicles earlier this week. The events unfolded on Monday morning, starting around 6:30 a.m., when officers responded to a report concerning a stolen truck from a residence located on Fenwick Street.

Less than an hour after the initial report, police located the stolen truck on Chebucto Road. In an effort to apprehend the suspect, officers initiated a traffic stop. However, the driver did not comply and instead fled the scene, resulting in a series of collisions. The fleeing driver struck a marked police vehicle, and as the pursuit continued, additional police units were involved when the suspect collided with another responding police vehicle. The situation escalated further when the driver crashed into a third vehicle that was halted at a red light at the intersection of Connaught Avenue and Quinpool Road.

By approximately 7:40 a.m., officers were able to locate and arrest the driver with assistance from the K9 unit. The suspect was identified as 33-year-old Nirica West. In the aftermath of these events, police reported that West appeared in Halifax provincial court on Tuesday, where she faced a multitude of charges stemming from her actions that morning.

The charges levied against Nirica West include: break and enter with intent to commit an offence, motor vehicle theft, flight from a peace officer for failure to stop a motor vehicle while being pursued, dangerous operation of a conveyance, possession of property obtained by crime exceeding $5,000, theft from a motor vehicle under $5,000, and failure to stop after an accident.

This series of events highlights the significant dangers posed by vehicle theft and the subsequent reckless driving that can result during police pursuits. The regional police response demonstrated a coordinated effort in handling the situation, ultimately leading to the successful apprehension of the suspect. The incident serves as a reminder of the ongoing challenges law enforcement faces in maintaining public safety in the face of criminal activities such as vehicle theft.
