Some Iranian Canadians are voicing their support for foreign intervention in Iran following a significant attack launched by the U.S. and Israel, which involved missile strikes on the Middle Eastern nation. Ezra Soleh, an Iranian Canadian filmmaker, welcomed the military action, asserting that the people of Iran are fatigued by “a regime that has been massacring people, killing people by the thousands.”
Recent violent crackdowns by the Iranian government on anti-government protests have reportedly resulted in over 3,000 deaths, according to official government sources. However, the U.S.-based Human Rights Activists News Agency, known for its accurate reporting during previous unrest, estimates the death toll to be above 7,000. Soleh noted the challenge in contacting individuals within Iran due to an imposed internet blackout, suggesting that many inside the country perceive the foreign intervention positively. “They know this surgery has to be done for the cancer to be removed,” he stated.
Former U.S. President Donald Trump had previously threatened military action in response to the killing of peaceful demonstrators but refrained from immediate action. His justification for the current military strikes centers on Iran's continued development of its nuclear program and its ambitions to create missiles capable of reaching U.S. territory.
Ardeshir Zarezadeh, a former Iranian political prisoner who escaped to Canada, described the U.S.-Israel attack as a favorable scenario for both Iranians desiring an end to governmental repression and Western nations seeking to curb Iran's nuclear ambitions. He articulated, “If there is a free country, if there is a democratic-established government in Iran, there will be no nuclear bomb. There will be no threats coming out of Iran to Canada and the United States… It will be beneficial for everyone in the Middle East and obviously for international peace.”
In line with this sentiment, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney expressed support for the U.S. actions in Iran, labeling the Islamic Republic as “the principal source of instability and terror throughout the Middle East” and emphasizing that it must never acquire the capability to develop a nuclear weapon.
This report was initially published on February 28, 2026, by The Canadian Press and reflects the growing discourse among Iranian Canadians regarding foreign intervention as a means to address the oppressive regime in Iran.
In recent demonstrations, it has been noted that many individuals are calling for regime change, with protests occurring in cities like Toronto. Activists emphasize the importance of international attention and action to support the fight for freedom and democracy within Iran, highlighting an increasing desire for an overhaul of the current political landscape in the region.
