Police have arrested two men in connection with alleged robbery and ensuing struggle outside a store in Dartmouth

Two men have been arrested in relation to an alleged robbery incident that took place outside a Canadian Tire store in Dartmouth. The Halifax Regional Police reported that the incident occurred on Sunday afternoon when store employees confronted a man believed to be stealing merchandise. According to the police, the suspect threatened the employees with a knife during the confrontation.

An off-duty police officer who happened to be present witnessed the unfolding scene and attempted to apprehend the suspect. The officer was able to restrain the individual, but not without difficulties, which escalated into a struggle between them.

During this confrontation, a person driving a white SUV approached the officer and the suspect. In a concerning turn of events, the vehicle made contact with a store employee before the driver circled the parking lot and returned to the scene. Eyewitness accounts indicate that the driver briefly exited the vehicle and attempted to assist the suspect by trying to pull the officer off him. However, after a short intervention, the individual returned to the SUV and drove toward the officer once more before fleeing the area.

Following the incident, the Halifax Regional Police swiftly conducted a search for the vehicle involved. Their efforts paid off when they located a vehicle matching the description of the white SUV outside a residence on Ferguson Road in Dartmouth. The driver was apprehended at this location shortly after the incident.

Subsequently, two men were taken into custody and appeared in court on the following day. Both individuals face multiple charges, including two counts of assault and robbery. One of the suspects, a 43-year-old man, is facing additional charges including possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace, carrying a concealed weapon, and resisting arrest. The other suspect, a 33-year-old man, is also facing a couple of driving-related charges.

This incident highlights the dangers that can arise in situations involving theft and the potential for violence against not only store employees but also law enforcement officers.
