A new leadership change has taken place within the Nova Scotia Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) as assistant commissioner Dan Morrow has been appointed as the new commanding officer. The announcement regarding this transition was made on the previous day, marking a significant shift in the province's law enforcement leadership.
Dan Morrow, who joined the police force in his home province of Manitoba in 1992, has made Nova Scotia his home since 2007. Throughout his career, he has held various positions within the RCMP and has served in multiple communities across Nova Scotia, showcasing his commitment to local policing. His most recent role before assuming command was as the criminal operations officer, where he gained valuable experience in managing and directing criminal cases.
In a statement released by the RCMP, Morrow expressed his dedication to community engagement and collaboration. "I pride myself on learning from the people I work with and the communities I serve," he stated. Morrow emphasized that he would approach his new role with a commitment to listen, learn, and contribute positively to the strength of the Nova Scotia division and enhance the safety of the province as a whole.
Morrow succeeds assistant commissioner Dennis Daley, who had held the command since 2022. Daley recently retired in March, paving the way for Morrow's appointment. This change comes at a time when leadership continuity and community trust are viewed as essential components for effective policing in Nova Scotia.
As the new commanding officer, Morrow faces the challenge of maintaining public trust and ensuring community safety in a province that has seen various complexities in law enforcement. His wealth of experience and commitment to understanding the needs of the communities he serves will be critical as he navigates these challenges in his new position.
