Jason Nixon previously held the position of social services minister before taking over the finance portfolio. Meanwhile, Adriana LaGrange has transitioned from the preventative health-care ministry to oversee hospitals. This shift comes after Matt Jones, the former hospitals minister, also announced his departure from the cabinet and his decision against running in future elections.
Tara Sawyer has been appointed as the agriculture minister, while Justin Wright will take over LaGrange's responsibilities in preventative health care. Nathan Neudorf is set to assume the role of social services minister, leaving behind his former portfolio of affordability and utilities, which will now be managed by R.J. Sigurdson, who previously served as the agriculture minister.
The cabinet shuffle also saw two backbenchers receiving promotions. Brandon Lunty has been named the chief government whip, and Scott Cyr will serve as the parliamentary secretary for transportation. These changes reflect Premier Smith's ongoing efforts to strengthen her government and respond to Albertans’ needs.
