SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) – A tragic plane crash in the Bahamas has resulted in the deaths of 10 individuals, including prominent musicians and a DJ, as confirmed by the Bahamas Musicians and Entertainers Union on Saturday, a day after the incident. This devastating event has brought sorrow to the entertainment community, highlighting the loss of talented individuals who contributed significantly to the cultural scene of The Bahamas.

The crash took place in North Andros, situated in waters just west of Nassau, the capital of the Bahamas. Following the incident, the government made the decision to temporarily ground all Flamingo Air flights, reflecting the seriousness of the situation. The plane that crashed had taken off from Lynden Pindling International Airport in Nassau, with its destination set for San Andros.

In a statement released on X, the union expressed heartfelt condolences, stating, "Among the dearly departed are some of the talented and vibrant members of our entertainment community, including members of The Pond Band and a DJ." They further emphasized that these individuals' "passion, dedication, and artistry touched so many lives and helped to enrich the cultural fabric of The Bahamas," underscoring the significance of their contributions.

The Bahamian Aircraft Accident Investigation Authority is currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Energy, Utilities and Aviation issued a statement explaining that the suspension of Flamingo Air's air operator certificate is a precautionary measure during the investigation. This decision was linked to two safety incidents involving Flamingo Air that occurred on the same day as the crash.

Minister JoBeth Coleby-Davis revealed during a press conference that the first incident involved a Flamingo Air plane that was en route to Mayaguana. The pilot reported a concern and opted to return to Nassau. Once the aircraft landed and passengers safely disembarked, the plane caught fire, escalating concerns and prompting further investigation into the airline's safety practices.
