A significant upgrade is underway at a child care centre in North Preston, Nova Scotia, as the provincial government announces a $100,000 investment aimed primarily at replacing a decades-old oil-fired heating system. Twila Grosse, the Minister of African Nova Scotian Affairs and Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for the area, made the announcement during a public event held in North Preston.
The goal of the funding is to transition from an oil heating system to a more energy-efficient electric pump system. The press release emphasizes the importance of this upgrade, not only for energy savings but also for providing a safer and improved environment for the children who attend the daycare. Grosse highlighted the daycare's significance to the community, stating, “This daycare means so much to North Preston, and this funding will help make sure it remains that way for years to come.”
The North Preston child care centre, established in 1972, has been reliant on an oil boiler and baseboard radiators since its inception. The facility is managed by the North Preston Medical Society, which plays a crucial role in its operation and services to the local community. The government funding will also facilitate additional upgrades to the building, which may include the installation of solar panels, improvements in insulation, new windows and doors, and energy-efficient lighting systems.
Wayne Desmond, President of the North Preston Medical Society, expressed enthusiasm regarding the funding, emphasizing that it represents a major step towards leveling the playing field in early childhood education. “This funding will help level the playing field in early childhood education and equip our children for the future,” Desmond stated. He noted the importance of retrofitting the 75-year-old building to accommodate modern educational and social needs.
Minister Grosse reiterated the community’s strong attachment to the child care facility, underlining the government's commitment to enhancing the building through these upgrades. The initiative not only represents an investment in infrastructure but also signifies a broader commitment to supporting early childhood education in the area, ensuring that the daycare can continue serving families in North Preston for many years to come.
